Message from Maria dos Anjos, Mozambican Ministry of Health

_______________________________________________________________________

Regarding food safety, the Ministry of Health in Mozambique does the food control quality, monitoring and legislation, and at provincial levels the food control quality is done by the Provincial Directoracte of Health through the Centre of Environmental Health, which also collaborates with the Municipalities.

Under the Ministry of Health at central level the Department of environmental health is the leader of the programme, although there is another section under the community health whcih deals with nutrition issues. But we do coordinate.

We are also the Codex Alimentarius focal point for the all country.

According to my experience in this area, it would be good to discuss the following themes at the next global forum.

- The food legislation related to health. Rules, etc.

- The food control system. How to set up and factors to be considered.

- HACCP design programme.

- Health impact assessment particularly in the health care services, on issues linked to food safety.

- Descentralization, and the role of local government on the area of food control quality.

- Role of Consumers organization and how they can contribute more to the system.

- Some financial aspects and priorities given by the governments in the issues of food safety.

- Role of the international organization such as FAO, and WHO on this matter

- Countries which have an advanced experience may bring case studies and their lessons learned to others.

Regards.

Maria dos Anjos
